Reserve Exchange Inventory at Approval

This setting lets you create exchange fulfillment orders on hold and reserve inventory the moment a return is approved, so replacement stock is secured earlier in the return workflow. Use it when you want to guarantee exchange items are set aside before the return is fully resolved.

Where to find it

Go to Settings > Exchange Requests > Exchange Inventory Hold. The Exchange Inventory Hold card only appears when your exchange method is set to Original Order Exchanges.

Set it up

1. Open the Exchange Inventory Hold card.
2. Enable Reserve exchange inventory at approval. When checked, exchange fulfillment orders are created on hold as soon as the return is approved, and inventory is reserved immediately. When left unchecked, fulfillment orders are only created once the return is resolved. This setting is off by default (default: unchecked).

What changes when you turn this on

With this option enabled, the app moves exchange fulfillment order creation earlier in the return lifecycle: as soon as a return is approved, the exchange fulfillment orders are created on hold and inventory is reserved. With it disabled, no fulfillment order is created and no inventory is reserved until the return reaches the resolved stage. The setting is stored per shop and defaults to off, so existing behavior is unchanged until you turn it on.
