Customize the Return Received Email

Updated Sep 29, 2026

The Return Received Email is sent when you mark a customer's returned items as received. Use this card to control the wording your customers see confirming that their return has arrived and will be processed.

Where to find it

Go to Settings > Notifications > Return Received Email.

Set it up

Each field drives the return-received email preview and is saved for the currently selected language on blur (when you click out of the field).

  1. Subject Line — Sets the subject line of the email. Its helper text notes that the subject is always followed by the order number, which is appended automatically (the preview appends a sample #1234 after your text). Default: "Return Successfully Received for Order".
  2. Return Received Email Heading — Controls the heading shown at the top of the email preview when returned items are marked as received. Default: "We received your return for Order".
  3. Return Received Email Body — Sets the main body text of the email. Default: "We are pleased to inform you that we have received your return. We will process it in the upcoming days."

Working with a second language

If you run a second active portal language, use the Language Selector to switch to it. The same three fields then edit the second-language versions, which are saved separately:

  • Subject Line (second language) — Default: "(Translate) Return Successfully Received for Order". The order number is still appended automatically.
  • Return Received Email Heading (second language) — Default: "(Translate) We received your return for Order".
  • Return Received Email Body (second language) — Default: "(Translate) We are pleased to inform you that we have received your return. We will process it in the upcoming days."

These second-language values are stored on a separate record from the primary language, so translating them does not overwrite your primary-language text. They require a second active portal language.

What changes when you turn this on

Your edits are persisted to your shop's app settings when the settings save, and the stored heading, subject, and body are what populate the return-received email preview. The subject line is stored without the order number; the order number is appended automatically at send time.

Plan requirements

Editing the second-language versions of the subject, heading, and body requires the advanced plan.
