Configure Fulfillment Options for Quick Exchanges

Use Fulfillment Options to decide whether a shipping method is required to place an exchange, whether staff can mark exchange orders as fulfilled, and how fulfillment locations are shown and applied to exchange orders.

Where to find it

Go to Settings > Quick Exchanges > Exchange Order > Fulfillment Options.

Set it up

Each option is a checkbox. All four are off by default.

1. Require Shipping Method to Place an Exchange — When enabled, a shipping method must be chosen before an exchange can be placed. When off, exchanges can be placed without selecting a shipping method. Default: off.

2. Show option to mark exchange order as fulfilled — When enabled, an option to mark the exchange order as fulfilled is shown. Its help text notes that this option appears below the fulfillment location checkbox. Default: off. Turn this on first if you plan to use either location option below — the two location checkboxes stay disabled until this is enabled.

3. Select Fulfillment Location — When enabled, a fulfillment location selector is shown for the exchange order. This checkbox is disabled until Show option to mark exchange order as fulfilled is on. Note the built-in warning: the product picker keeps counting inventory by summing all of your inventory locations together, not just the one selected, so products may appear in stock even when they are not available at the selected fulfillment location. Default: off.

4. Set a default Fulfillment Location — When enabled, a default fulfillment location is applied to exchange orders and the fulfillment location dropdown becomes usable. This checkbox is disabled until Show option to mark exchange order as fulfilled is on. Default: off.

What changes when you turn this on

Each checkbox writes its value to the shop's appSettings.fulfillmentOptions record (for example, requireShippingMethod, showMarkAsFulfilledOption, showFulfillmentLocationSelector, and applyDefaultFulfillmentLocation), which is stored as a boolean on the Shop model. Requiring a shipping method forces a shipping-method selection before an exchange can be placed. Enabling the mark-as-fulfilled option surfaces the fulfilled control on the exchange order and unlocks the two fulfillment location checkboxes. Showing the location selector adds a location picker to the exchange order, and setting a default location applies a default fulfillment location to exchange orders and makes the location dropdown usable.
