Send Emails From Your Own Domain (Custom Email Domain)
Updated Sep 30, 2026
Custom Email Domain lets you send returns and exchanges email notifications from your own business address (for example, returns@yourstore.com) instead of the default no-reply@exchangeit.io, improving deliverability and brand consistency. Use it when you want customer-facing notifications to come from your own domain.
Where to find it
Open the app settings and go to the Custom Email Domain section.
Prerequisites
Custom domain email is available only on the Advanced plan. If you are on a lower plan, you will see an upgrade banner instead of the setup form; use the plan/upgrade option to move to Advanced before continuing. You also need a sender address on your own business domain (not a free provider like Gmail or Yahoo) and access to that domain's DNS settings.
Set it up
- In the Authenticate Your Domain card, enter the address you want to send notifications from in the Sender Email Address field. This must be an email address on your business domain.
- Click Authenticate Domain. After authentication, the app generates DNS records you need to add to your domain, and the section switches to the DNS setup view.
- In the DNS records view, use the DNS Provider selector to match your provider. Choose the option for providers that automatically append your base domain (such as Namecheap, GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Squarespace) to use the short host values, or the option for providers that require fully qualified names (such as AWS Route53, DigitalOcean, Google Domains) to use the full host values.
- Log in to your DNS provider and add each record shown in the DNS Records table (Type, Host, Value) exactly as displayed. Wait 15–30 minutes for DNS propagation.
- Come back to the app and click Verify DNS Records. Once verification succeeds, the section shows a "Domain Verified" state with your sender email, domain, and verification date, and all notifications are sent from your custom address.
Until verification completes, the sender email shows as pending and emails continue to be sent from no-reply@exchangeit.io.
What changes when you turn this on
After your domain is verified, all email notifications are sent from the sender address you authenticated instead of the app default. Before verification, the app keeps sending from no-reply@exchangeit.io.
Managing and revoking
To stop using your custom domain, click Remove Custom Domain. This control is available in both the pending-verification view and the verified view, and it removes the custom domain configuration for your store. After removing, you can start over by entering a sender address and clicking Authenticate Domain again.
