Offer a Next-Order Discount After a Return
Updated Sep 29, 2026
Use this settings group to offer returning customers a percentage discount on their next order after they complete a return. When enabled, Exchange It creates and manages the Shopify discount for you.
Where to find it
Go to Returns Portal > Upselling > Upsell discount.
Prerequisites
This feature requires the advanced plan. The entire control is disabled on lower plans, where an "Upgrade" button is shown instead.
Set it up
- Next order offer — This is the choice list that turns the offer on or off. Choose Offer a percentage discount after a return to make the discount available to returning customers, or Do not offer a discount to show no offer. The default is off (no discount offered).
- Discount % — This field sets the percentage discount offered on the next order. Enter the percentage you want to give. The default is 0. Negative values are rejected with a "Cannot be negative." error. The field appears once you select the "Offer a percentage discount after a return" option.
- Save your changes to apply the offer.
A status row above the choices reflects the live Shopify discount state (Active, Inactive, or No active discount) so you can confirm whether a discount is currently provisioned.
What changes when you turn this on
When the offer is enabled and saved with a discount percentage greater than 0, Exchange It provisions a Shopify discount automatically. The app looks for an existing discount matching the percentage you set; if none exists, it creates a new one titled ExchangeIt-<percentage>-percent-off with a generated unique code. If the offer is off or the discount percentage is 0 or less, no discount is provisioned and no offer is shown to customers. The button label that customers see for the offer is configured separately via the Upsell Button label field.
Plan requirements
Both the Next order offer control and the Discount % field require the advanced plan.
