Set a Default Shipping Charge for Original Order Exchanges

Updated Sep 29, 2026

Use this setting to define the standard amount your store charges for shipping exchange items back to a customer. Set it once so the fee is applied consistently across your exchange-only and return-plus-exchange scenarios.

Where to find it

Go to Settings > Exchange Requests > Exchange Options.

Prerequisites

This setting requires the Advanced plan. In addition, the amount field only becomes editable when the store is on Advanced, Original Order Exchanges is selected, and 'Set a default shipping charge' is enabled — until all three are true, the input stays disabled.

Set it up

  1. Open Settings > Exchange Requests > Exchange Options and locate the Shipping Charge (default amount) field under Fees > Shipping Charge.
  2. Confirm the field is editable (see Prerequisites). If it is greyed out, one of the enabling conditions is not yet met.
  3. Enter the numeric amount you want to charge. The field shows your store currency as a prefix and accepts values of 0 or higher. The default is 0.
  4. Save your settings.

What changes when you turn this on

The value you enter is stored as the default shipping charge for original-order exchanges. This amount is then surfaced in the Fee Interaction Summary for exchange-only and return-plus-exchange scenarios, so it factors into what the customer is charged when they exchange items. Because the field only accepts numbers of 0 or more, leaving it at 0 means no default shipping charge is applied.

Plan requirements

The Shipping Charge (default amount) field is available on the Advanced plan.
